Value proposition

Device Gateway solutions enable customers to easily integrate, access and manage heterogeneous smart things and devices through software and on-line services, in order to make their environment smarter, energy efficient, safer, comfortable, user-friendly, more accessible for elders and people with disabilities, - and to save money and energy.
  • Interoperability with and across over 40 communication protocols.
  • Highly scalable IPv6-based and RESTful compliant architecture.
  • Distributed architecture without unique point of failure or bottleneck.
  • Hardware and protocol agnostic solution, enabling the combination of all kinds of products and solutions, from different manufacturers and using different protocols, and freeing “locked-in” building automation users.
  • Close interactions with the international research community and the open standards' community.
  • Combining heterogeneous systems with cross-domain interactions, holistic control and monitoring, and integration with third parties applications for IoT.
  • Making Building automation more open, modular and evolving, with cost and investment saving, as well as a more granularity in investment strategy (CapEx).
  • Compliance with mature and emerging M2M standards, including CoAP, 6TiSCH, oneM2M and LWM2M.
  • IPv6 integration of legacy devices to support the transition to IPv6.
  • A user-friendly interface, enabling holistic management for smart buildings (energy, security, etc.) with a large number of smart things.
  • Internet of Things as a Services (IoTaaS), on-line services and cloud integration
  • A fully innovative smart environment user experience by enabling all subsystems to interact with each other (mobile phones, sensors, tags, video cameras, building automation devices, energy grid, virtual data, on-line services, web information, etc.), as well as with the end users, enabling fully smart, interactive and individually customized environment.
  • Reduced costs and barrier to change for building automation users by enabling the combination of different systems together and allowing them to get out of their usual locked-in situation, by enabling their system to evolve progressively with a mix of new products and a reduced barrier to change.
  • IPv6 and CoAP integration of legacy systems through IPv6 and CoAP proxy.
  • Higher energy efficiency and savings, and smart grid demand response: UDG enables holistic control and monitoring of buildings, turning them in interactive environment adapting the use of energy to the effective end-user needs, with energy efficient behaviour and substantial energy savings (estimated between 25% and 40%). UDG can be interconnected to the smart grid. It includes demand-response mechanisms for peak shaving, by reducing the energy consumption in case of peak loads on the grid,- with potential bill saving in dynamic pricing environment.
  • Saving Costs – CapEx and OpEx: UDG as a Service reduces the initial investment cost, and implicitly the barriers to entry and to change. The possibility to combine heterogeneous components allows their acquisition from different manufacturers at the best price. It allows the deployment of new systems and components progressively, and the recycling of existing legacy system. By integrating several functions into one platform (energy, comfort, access control, etc.), it saves the cost of buying multiple systems. By enabling energy optimization, remote monitoring and smarter environment,- UDG enables substantial energy and maintenance costs savings. Deployment, configurations and system maintenance are made very easy, saving time and costs compared to other systems. For instance, it takes less than 1 minute to enable a temperature sensor to control a video displayed on a TV screen.
  • User-centric and user customized environment: UDG can create a user centric environment based on the end-user behaviour and inputs into the system. It can automatically provide customized environments (lighting level, temperature, music, etc.) to different users. The end-user can override the proposed automation, except if the system manager wants to limit the overriding.
  • Ubiquitous and secured remote access, control and monitoring: UDG enables ubiquitous and secured access to its connected devices from anywhere and at any time, through a user friendly control and monitoring framework. It has been developed with a data ownership and privacy by design approach, including strong authentication and encryption mechanisms.
  • Providing more comfort with Smart environment and “Smart IPv6 buildings”: UDG can transform any building into a “Smart IPv6 building” in which all components can be addressed and interconnected through IPv6, with all kinds of cross-domain interactions. It enables the transformation of any building into a smart environment adaptable to the user needs and desires.
  • Increased accessibility and support for elder and people with disabilities: UDG transforms homes into interactive environments, with things and devices adapting their behaviour to the user needs. It can even detect user problems and send alerts if desired.
  • Safer and more secure environment: UDG can improve safety and security by identifying building intrusions, fires, leaks and floods, unusual behaviours, excessive level of CO2, etc. It can send alerts and alarms to mobile phones, e-mails, sirens as well as to screens and other systems.
  • Access control: UDG can manage access control to buildings, rooms and devices,- with different forms of user identification (RFID, NFC, mobile phone) and alarms in case of intrusion.
  • Innovative Graphical User Interfaces: UDG provides Graphical User Interface (GUI) with original multidimensional access to devices and groups of devices, which ease the management of a high number of smart things distributed in various locations. It enables the customization of different kinds of GUIs for mobile phones, tablets, PCs and touch screen, including on-line GUI as a Service.
  • High scalability compliant with smart cities requirements: UDG has been designed for high scalability to enable resilient control and monitoring of a very large number of sensors, meters and actuators,- without unique point of failure or bottleneck.
  • Community support: UDG intends to build a community of users and adopters, giving them the possibility to share experience, as well as modules and codes, with potential incomes for them.
  • UDG support team and expert network: UDG can provide experts and consulting support for projects, including cutting edge academic and industrial experts for important projects.
  • IPv6 and M2M standards compliant: UDG is fully IPv6 and IPv4 compliant and includes specific extensions for emerging M2M standards, including 6LoWPAN, COAP, oneM2M and RPL.
  • Platform-agnostic: UDG can be deployed on various platforms, including Windows and Linux environments.
  • On the edge of innovation: Device Gateway works in close cooperation with an international network of research partners, including leading European research projects.
  • Expertise: Device Gateway gathers international experts in IPv6, M2M and Internet of Things.
